The Source of Poetry

The words collected through the years,
Trapped in the space between my ears
Seem anxious to emerge.

Hidden deep within my mind
They tell events of every kind,
They're always on the verge

Of spilling from my pen with glee,
Forming thoughts of you and me,
I can't control the urge.

They bubble up within my heart,
Somewhere in the deepest part,
They simply have to merge.

I wake at one, or two, or three,
I can't sleep 'til I've set them free,
My mind I have to purge.

They swirl and twirl, they scream and shout,
Demanding that I let them out,
And spend them in a splurge.

One by one they tumble out,
I wonder if there's any doubt,
Another poem will surge,

Tomorrow......?

Only one of my verses was posted in the bulletin each week, until the fifth Sunday when all the verses were printed up.

Heavenly Music

An organ has a magic air,
Surrounding us with music fair,
Which strikes our hearts with chords so rare,
When played by one with certain flair.

A gift from God is music given,
Sung by angels high in Heaven
Bubbling in our hearts like leaven,
With joy that brings us near to Heaven.

Nimble fingers make notes ring
Like church bells when the organs sing,
Like babbling brooks and birds on wing,
On earth there is no lovelier thing.

It’s music makes my heart to swell,
My eyes to tear when it does tel… Continue

God's Melodies

God puts music in our hearts,
To each of us his love imparts
A song of joy, a psalm of praise,
The notes as bright as sunbeams' rays.

Soul stirring in the deepest sense,
Stripping us of all pretense.
Before God's throne we all shall bring,
Our love, our all, when hymns we sing.… Continue
