HE SAVED US

He Saved Us 11/6/08

I have to go on record
Of living life in discord.
As I grew up I hated life.
It seemed all evil and strife.

Remember wanting to die,
Felt like I was living a lie.
All in my life seemed for ill,
I only wanted death, still.

I grew up too hard, too fast.
Childhood was nothing that would last
More than three or four of my years.
They were full of salty tears.

I had two brothers to raise
And they fulfilled all of my days,
Trying to keep them safe from harm,
Not to let them hea… Continue

REDEMPTION DAY

Redemption Day 4/27/08

Oh Lord,
Thank You for letting me come into Your kingdom,
A pauper,
With empty hands,
Empty heart,
Knowing not for what I was looking.
But I found You there,
A King, a Priest,
Who could all my burdens bear,
A God to save me from myself,
And from the Devil's snare.
How I look back
With tears in my heart
To the time when You called my name.
It was faint to my ears,
But strong to my soul,
As I stood at that wooden pew.
I barely sensed the tears streaming down,
And felt my he… Continue

Toward Divine Intention

Dreamt of long ago
Formed in time and space
Nurtured in a sacred space.
Thrust into discordant cacophony
Possessing a redemptive restlessness
Longing to reflect God’s vision of who and what
He made me to be.
Stepping to and fro from forest trail to riverside
Roaming deserts and ice fields
Traversing oceans and mountain peaks
A restless quest for that which is bigger than all of creation
And more beautiful than perfection.

Waging holy wars
Against the powers of darkness and dread
Struggling to s… Continue

Looking Back

The two sat on the porch, talking 'bout the past,
And how one wished those simple times simply would have last.
But now they sit in silence under summer's burning rays,
Sifting through their memories of moments long since passed.

'Funny,' the one said to the other with a misty sort of gaze,
'How lookin' at what used to be, in those golden days,
Only makes me notice more the way they aint the same.'
'Yep,' said the second one, 'and I give God all the praise
For giving me a simple path back to wh… Continue

I saw a poem

I saw it clearly as I let my eyes linger --
something there
just beyond the obvious

and, like a trout hovering while the fly is cast and
insistently played upon the surface of the pond,
I felt it drawing me

words forming on my silent lips
as God spoke poem into existence
and I, taking the barb-less hook

swallowed deeply.
