I didn't mean to post this again, just edited it to add the note about it being included in the anthology! Hope Whispers is a beautiful book with poems and short stories about hope, and I'm thankful to have this poem included.

This is a wonderful poem and prayer, Joseph! Very appropriate for each of us who write poetry for God's glory.

Limitless Love

No matter what valley you travel through
In a deep and rugged ravine,
As the burdens of life press upon you,
There’s a power on which you can lean.

When overcome with sorrow and pain,
As trials seem to increase,
God’s mercy and grace still remain,
Providing comfort and peace.

When you… Continue

The Paradox

How in the midst of despair and pain
Can joy overwhelm, overflow?
How when hope seems to all fade away
Can life and happiness grow?

What a paradox is this twisted dance
This song with no harmony
So disjointed by every circumstance
Yet becomes a ballet and symphony

The good and the bad and indifferent
When standing alone bring confusion
But together in a higher, grander scheme
Make sense and dispels all illusion

And the dance of despair and of joy
And the song of woe and elation
Brings a depth… Continue

Shadow Boxing

I've spent a lifetime fighting shadows
I guess they call it shadow boxing
Swinging at the air

Futile attempts to vanquish the demons
Knock them cold and rendered helpless
Yet they were always there

Shadows, yet they are so real
I felt the pain of their every blow
But they felt nothing from me

These ghostly foes delivered such pain
And I their beaten victim fell
So broken, so void of mercy

I cannot defeat these enemies
Who have hidden themselves so expertly
They know no fear

So I befriended… Continue

Poem: Release the Songbird in Me

O my Lord of mercy and grace -
I desire to write more spiritual verse,
while flying on your notes of blessings
and overcoming Mankind’s sin curse.

My heart’s singing of your joy,
as You feed me by Your hand
the fullness of Thy melodic Word;
thus enabling… my ability to understand.

O Lord, give flight to my words
while I’m attuned to Your Spirit –
May Your message reach weary souls
and empower them with a Heavenly lift.

Allow me to rest in Your Presence,
nestled amid the branches of Life’s Tre… Continue

THE GOSPEL WRITERS

Matthew penned the first gospel
from where we read of God’s son
from being a collector of taxes
this disciple to Jesus did run

The shortest gospel of them all
was written by the disciple Mark
who showed the way to God
was seeing the light from the dark

The good physician Dr Luke
did write the gospel story
about Jesus and His love
pointing the way to be holy

The one who Jesus loved
John, which was his name
who stood with Jesus mother
at the savours cross of shame
